1. a) Identify the misspelled words and Subject-Verb Agreement errors in the passage below and record only the correct versions on your answer sheet. [Marks: 5, CO2]
Every semester, the department organizes a research methodology workshop for first-year students. The number of students who attend these sessions have risen steadily over the past three years. Each session is held in the seminar hall and lasts for nearly three hours. The course coordinator, along with two senior faculty members, explain how to frame a clear hypothisis and how to assess the feasability of a project before starting it. Participants are also shown how to search for reliable databases, organize their references, and cite every source accurately. A number of participants have found this guidance useful, especially because plagiarisim remains a serious academic offence at the university. Everyone who completes the workshop receives a certificate of participation.
Last week, our group submitted the final report of our software project. The project, which was assigned at the beginning of the semester, required us to design an attendance management system for the university. Each of the drafts were checked by the course instructor before the deadline. However, neither the instructor nor the teaching assistants was able to locate the source code in the shared repository, as the access link had expired. We later noticed a small descrepancy between the figures in the report and the output produced by the program. The accuracy of the results in all three tables depend on how carefully the values are recorded, so we corrected the errors and resubmitted the report. Ten days is not a long time to revise an entire program, but the experience taught us a valuable lesson. Mathematics is not the only skill an engineer needs; careful documentation matters just as much.
